General Manager of SNTGN Transgaz SA, Ion Sterian, together with Paul Popescu, manager of the Project Implementation and Management Unit (UIMP) within the company, visited today the International Natural Gas Measurement Stations (SMG) 1, 2 and 3, from Negru Vodă, Constanța County.
The importance of these stations is very high because through them the majority of natural gas volumes from the Trans-Balkan Corridor, part of the Vertical Corridor, enter the territory of Romania. This ensures the natural gas supply of the Republic of Moldova, including Transnistria, through the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline, the natural gas supply of Ukraine in the Isaccea-Orlovka direction, and through the BRUA gas pipeline, the partial natural gas supply of Hungary and Slovakia.
On this occasion, the implementation status of measures to modernize these three stations with technology at the highest standards of quality, efficiency and safety was monitored. In order to ensure the diversification of natural gas supply sources and the consolidation of national, regional and European energy security, Transgaz made the necessary investments for the three pipelines, T1, T2 and T3, to operate in a bidirectional (reverse-flow) mode.
Thus, T1 was completed in 2019, T2 was completed in 2022 and T3 in 2023. The capacity of these transport pipelines, through which natural gas can enter the territory of Romania, is 100 million cubic meters/day compared to 14.5 million cubic meters/day that the Bulgarian side can ensure through the Interconnection Agreement. The modernization works at the International Natural Gas Metering Stations are included in the PDSNT 2024-2033 approved by ANRE by Decision 2717/17.12.2024.
